Welcome!

The 2009 racing season is off to a great start! Here in the Gorge, we have had two slalom race days for a total of 16 races. While the first was an awesome 20-30 knot day, the second was more challenging with unsteady breeze; winds ranged 10-35 during one individual race alone. The formula gear has yet to smell action! Also, Bruce Peterson has gracefully aged into the old dude fleet (Grand Master); we welcome him into our ranks!

The new 2009 Starboard iSonic 111 is working very well on our box slalom course. While it handles anywhere from a 6.2 to 8.2 meter sail and a 36 to 46cm fin, the sweet spot for me is the new Sailworks 7.1 and Techtonics Goldwing 40. Bruce's new sail design produces lot's of low end grunt for our often 'holey" conditions, while maintaining smooth control and top end speed in the gusts. My impression is that it is Sailworks' rangiest sail to date.

Upcoming season highlights include the return of the US Nationals to Hood River and the Sailworks Junior Race Camp in July. We are looking forward to hosting some of the best youth, amateur, and pro racers.

I have been competing in the US National Windsurfing Tour since 2001. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to train and race primarily in Hood River, Oregon, in the world famous Columbia River Gorge with some of the best sailors in the sport. I believe strongly that all disciplines of windsurfing competition help to not only promote the sport and associated businesses but more importantly, respect for and stewardship of the environment.

I am currently sponsored by Sailworks Sails, Starboard Windsurfboards, Trident Sports, Emergen-C energy drink, and ProMotion Wetsuits. As a "starving athlete", I of course welcome others that share my sense of professionalism and commitment to excellence to also participate.
